Week 6 - Improvements

After the midterm presentation, we got feedback from Dr. Hamid about our improved design. He suggested we try to streamline the bracing because the amount we have now is a bit overkill, especially the bracing within the structure that ends up splitting the floors into subfloors. Also, we needed to distribute the weight evenly between the second and third floor, and eliminate the weight from the bottom floor since it doesn’t really do anything. To improve, we eliminated some cross bracing so the only bracing was along the perimeter, and distributed the weight using MDF board. The second and third floors have approximately 28 cubic inches of MDF board each. Testing was done on the further improved structure and the results were similar, the modified structure did not sway or collapse.
